At Verterra Collies, we are a small breeding program focused on quality over quantity. We strive to produce dogs with true balance in mind, as close as possible to the breed standard in our mind’s eye. We think Collies should ooze with beautiful, classic breed type, while maintaining structurally sound bodies, effortless movement from all angles, and true Collie temperament that makes them the perfect family companion and loyal friend. We aim to produce and raise dogs who are smart, athletic, loving, obedient, resilient, and intuitive to their owners.

At Verterra Collies, we believe in harnessing the power of community to better our breed in these rapidly changing times. Gone are the days of high volume kennels where dogs are treated as livestock. Puppies are raised in our home and given the utmost care and attention from their first breath on. Due to the nature of our small program, our desire is to have only a few dogs on site, that way we can devote the utmost care, attention, and training to those under our roof. This allows us the opportunity to collaborate/co-own/co-breed with other likeminded Preservation/Conservation Collie Breeders.

All of our puppies are fully health tested and are from parents who have been fully health tested. Our Collies have earned the right to continue their legacy into the future of the breed by becoming AKC Champions, Grand Champions, B.I.S.S. (Best in Specialty Show), or more! We are advocates for the AKC’s CGC program, where your dog can earn a title for some pretty basic things any dog can do! We raise our puppies using Puppy Culture to ensure they are exposed to a myriad of things that will better prepare them for wherever their life may lead. Whether it be the show ring, the herding fields, the agility course, or curled up against your legs at the foot of your bed after an exhausting day, we do everything in our power to give them the tools to navigate wherever life may take them.

While Verterra Collies focuses on the smooth variety, often the best choice for a sire may be rough, meaning we may have rough puppies available as well. Even in smooth to smooth pairings (if both parents are rough factored), we may still have quite a few rough puppies in the litter. (Fascinatingly enough, Smooth is the dominant gene!) We welcome your inquiries, and after a recent move down from Michigan, we are now very centrally located in beautiful Northwest Arkansas. For the right families we can arrange transportation to just about anywhere in the US or Canada. All of our puppies are microchipped, AKC registered, come with a beautiful 5 generation pedigree, full breed specific health testing, veterinary exam prior to departure, and puppy contract; stating amongst other things, we offer a lifetime of support and will take the puppy/dog back or assist in rehoming if the circumstances should ever lead to no longer being able to properly care for the dog etc.. Though we highly doubt you’ll use that option, we are here to support whatever your unique journey in dogs may bring.
