The Wieth’s Marcus and I, (Melody)  both served in the Army as helicopter pilots for a combined total of 29.5 years. We bought our property in eastern Kansas, and I left the service late in 2020 to begin my dream of raising Great Danes. Together we work hard to support our dogs’ lavish lifestyle. We breed for health, temperament, longevity and wrinkles! All our dogs are from European lineage, and we continue to breed in that style. We don’t breed to “improve” the standard, those guidelines where set long ago by people far smarter than me. We breed to standard and add our “style” i.e., the heavier bone and head that many people refer to as European. We do breed some off colors, and my stance has always been that I don’t care what color they are as long as they are healthy, and happy. We stand behind what we produce here at Southwind Great Danes. All our adults are OFA tested for heart, thyroid, hips and elbows. We are not genetic testing currently because our belief is that the science is still in its infancy. Too many dogs are removed from breeding programs due to a lack of clarity of the meaning of the results given from the testing, there are just too many variables on how a disease manifests itself. For example, often the test is named after a disease. Just because the dog has the genetic markers for the disease doesn’t mean it will ever develop. Our puppies come with a 2-year genetic health guarantee and lifetime breeder support. They go home up to date on vaccinations, worming, microchipped and vet checked. You also get 5lbs of food, coupons, and a swag bag to help your puppy easier transition from our home to yours. At this time, we are raising our puppies with the Puppy Culture Program, but some very exciting things are coming out in the Bad Ass Breeder Program, and we can’t wait to start incorporating those protocols.
