Oxota Borzoi (Reg.)

Borzoi, New Mexico

The Russian word borzoi means “swift”; oxota means “hunt”. After two decades of running and judging borzoi, we’ve come to appreciate their superior ability to execute their original function: coursing live game over rough terrain in cold weather. Our emphasis and passion for this beautiful breed are on function: performance + art   We have been admirers of borzoi since 1975 when we befriended a neighbor that had a pair. We are delighted to have these talented and versatile hounds make our lives complete. We seek to produce hounds that are functional, healthy, sound, stable, versatile, and durable, that we can’t help but love and want to live with. Our hounds excel at open field coursing, therapy work, and as household companions.   After some years breeding horses, we learned a few things. We will not compromise on our quality standards: hounds must be dead sane, properly built, oozing prey drive, proven on the field, and have current BCOA-recommended health testing results publicly recorded, including degenerative myelopathy status. No excuses. In accordance with established guidelines, each must be an excellent representative of the breed and of complementary type. In making breeding decisions, we take into account not just the dogs themselves, but also our long-term obligations to the borzoi breed. Toward this end, we periodically outcross to imports to ensure genetic diversity as well as functional type.   We make every effort to ensure a good fit for buyers and puppies by having every litter professionally evaluated for structure and temperament. We provide a lifetime of 24/7 support for puppy buyers, and safety net for our hounds. Please contact us for information about our Spring 2024 litter plans.
