Criterion Kooikerhondjes

Nederlandse Kooikerhondje, Tennessee

Criterion Kooikerhondjes is a small hobby kennel in Chattanooga, Tennessee – halfway between Atlanta and Nashville. I co-breed with others around the country as well. I got my first Kooiker in 2001, and 25+ years later, still adore this incredible breed. Since then, I have made several dog trips to the Netherlands, contributed to the breed’s 2018 AKC recognition, served on the breed club’s Health & Genetics and Rescue committees, and achieved “breed firsts” in performance, conformation and field. I make breeding decisions in an attempt to preserve genetic diversity, health, temperament and working ability in that order. I consider myself a “conservation breeder” – my focus is on the longer-term survival of a healthy population of Kooikers. Puppies are raised in-home with Avidog and Puppy Culture protocols and introduced to performance event foundation work.
